Chantal Guillermet – Time #2

Aline 1872 – 1964

This second quilt in the “Time” series is dedicated to my great-grandmother. She was originally from Nancy (East of France), where her family owned a glass factory.

She met Etienne (Time #1) while on vacation in Brittany, painting watercolors on the beach… a romantic encounter followed by a love match.

I knew her when she was very old, and I remember her as an elderly lady who always dressed in black. While clearing out my parents’ house, I found a box of old lace that had belonged to her. I used some of it in my quilt.

I also have an adorable little pink and white cut crystal carafe that came from her home. I made a colograph plate based on one of my photos to print fabric and incorporate it into the quilt.

Hence the choice of pink and black for this piece.

To make this quilt, I also used lace prints on the gelli plate and fragments of hand dyed old linen sheets.

The quilt is free-motion quilted.
