Bozena Wojtaszek – Time #1
The beginning
In this series I want to explore our changing relationship with time through the lifetime.
When we come to this world time is nothing – we are the center of The Universe and this is what matters. It takes time to see and understand that our life is not an accident but the result of many processes, big and small, happening in the past.
I visualised one’s life as a lace – we are not aware of the thread but we use it to build ourselves and to create our own pattern.
So I decided to use scraps of different fabric saved from my entire life as a background. Pieced together and slightly dyed to unify but still keeping them recognizable. Machine quilting and hand beading create all the ties and connections not so important for the black lace but nevertheless existing.

I love your subject choice and that you are using fabrics which have a history. A really interesting piece which you have executed beautifully. Well done.
Love the idea and thoughts about life as a lace.
It must be touching and thought-provoking to use textiles from your own life for this series. A very good idea!
A beautiful and touching piece.
I like your idea about representing time using scraps from your stash. I know the feeling when I see a small piece of fabric ind it takes me back in time reminding me when, where and what for I bought it. You are telling an interesting story with this beautiful piece.
This is such a good idea ! the result you achieved in dying your fabrics to unify them is really successful. I like how you embellished the surface with beads and embroideries.
What a unique and touching way to start your new series. I made a quilt for my mom from fabric scraps of quilts I’ve made over the years for each of her grandchildren. Lovely details and composition.
