Sonia Ruiz – Nature #2

Inspiration: La M or Cerro de Chipinque, our back yard view

For the 2nd challenge in our “Nature” series I would like to showcase the “M” mountain. This is one of the most popular peaks in the Chipinque Ecological Park and has received it’s name due to the three “teeth” in the center of the Sierra Mountain in the San Pedro Garza Garcia, Monterrey and Santa Catarina municipalities in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico and it just happened to be our backyard view. It’s a local favorite for sports enthusiasts who can enjoy this breathtaking scenery while hiking, cycling, jogging extreme sports and other outdoor activities.

Materials:  Hand dyed cotton bed linen, hand dyed gauze, raw edge appliqué, vintage DMC embroidery floss, french knots and free motion quilting and thread sketching.

  1. A great interpretation and use of materials and design to give me the ruggedness of the mountains. The addition of the “flowers and grass” reminds us that beauty is to be found in the most rugged environments.
