Sonia Ruiz – Book #2
Confetti Eggs by Jane Tenorio-Coscarelli
Since it was going to be Easter, I’ve chosen the book Confetti Eggs for my second challenge. In each of her bilingual books, Jane would include a story, a recipe and a quilt pattern.
The story is about a little girl who takes a basket of colorful, handmade confetti filled eggs that her grandmother made, to the town square to sell at the church’s celebration to buy books for her school and all the obstacles she had to go through during her journey there. The recipe is the Confetti Eggs project, which are instructions on how to make the confetti filled eggs. The quilt pattern is called the Egg quilt pattern, which is a 9 patch pattern with light to dark colors that give the illusion of confetti with appliqués of birds, flowers and eggs.
I used commercial fabrics that I overdyed, free motion quilted the cobblestone road, flowers, grass and wording. I continued the use of black thread to give the feel of an illustration, raw edge appliqué, French knots, acrylic paints, miniature 9 patch quilt and a butterfly to represent my dear friend Jane.

You paid a nice tribute to your friend Jane and Easter traditions. I like the block and how it matches with the rest. Bravo,
What a delightful quilt! Such wonderful detail in the basket with eggs, and the stitching of flowers, grasses, birds and egg shells. Just lovely!
I love the naiive and colourful representation of this story. The way that you have designed the quilt and included that different elements of the story is beautiful. The stitching adds beautiful detail and life to the design. Well done
