Helen Hazon – Decay #5

Inspiration – the naturally occurring decay of unstable atoms.

This quilt looks at Beta decay in which a neutron in an unstable atomic nucleus decays into a proton and an electron. The nucleus becomes more stable and the electron – the beta particle – carries a lot of energy and is ejected from the nucleus. I have included basic information in the quilt.

All materials are cotton with surface stitching in rayon.

I learn something with each of the quilts you are producing. Well constructed and a novel idea for demonstrating the decay theme. As always the stitching is precise and neat. Good work

  2. A simple but effective interpretation of science. Well done a great choice of fabrics.

  3. With your quilt you are diving really deeply into the science. It is amazing that you can express that with such minimal means following the principle of the art that less is more. The fabric choice fits the theme well.

  4. Now I know I didn’t pay attention at school. I learn a lot from your quilts. Nice interpretation and as alway very precise stitching.

  5. You create beautiful art from a subject that brings back anxious memories of my school days.
The symbol for beta is a truly beautiful shape.

  6. I am impressed by the use of scientific knowledges to interpret Decay ! Something totally impossible for me … I am just like Greetje and Iina !

I like the simplicity of your quilt.

  7. Although I hardly understand the science part I am, every time again, amazed about your precise and beautiful stitching. Lovely work.

  8. We all learn so much from your quilts! A simple approach to a complicated subject. Very neat stitching and good choice of fabrics.

The science goes way over my head but I love your interpretation, fabric choices and attention to details. Beautiful stitching!

  10. The subject takes me back many years. I love the attention to detail and the division across the surface.

  11. Your attention to detail is amazing and I enjoy exploring concepts from science studies of many years ago.

  12. Another interesting science lesson that’s over my head, lol, but I can appreciate the clean composition and meticulous execution. Well done.

  13. I didn’t expect to learn so much in this chalenge, well done!
