Helen Hazon – Decay #2

Inspiration – the fall and decay of leaves from deciduous trees.

This quilt shows the next stage in the decay of fallen leaves. I have included the fungi that live in and on the dead leaves and also some of the small animals and microbes living in the soil. All these organisms are involved in the decay process. I have also shown the rain and the sun’s rays without which decay would not happen.

All fabrics are cotton. Stitching is in rayon.

  1. A truly beautiful autumn scene. I can almost smell the forest.
Love the earthworms in the soil.

A lovely glimpse of all that is decaying in the autumn forest. Great fabric choice.

  4. This is a well done continuation of your series. It is interesting how in nature decay is helping new life to rise, this time in form of mushrooms. I love your stitching, as always!

  5. I love how you did the fallen leaves! The process of decay in one piece, above the ground and in the soil. Well done.

  6. I like how you use the same fabrics and colors to continue the next stage of your decay series. Love all the details above and below the ground and your stitching. Well done.

  7. A delightful quilt, very clean design and use of fabrics.
