Greetje Hein – Decay #4

Decay #4

2CV4

My 4th piece of the Decay series is a Citroën 2CV4.

The first car I owned was a very old, rusty, yellow 2CV4.

When I was able to spend a little more money I bought a red one. This is my favorite car ever!

So I made this quilt of a red 2CV4 as a tribute to the car I loved.

I used commercial fabrics and created details with stitching.

Also I used intense pencils to add details.

  1. What a lovely car! The decay is very well documented on your car. I especially like the background fabric on the bottom part of your quilt. Goes very well with your car. Well done!

  2. How great to be able to use the memory of your old car. This one has truly seen better days and the detail you have added really demonstrates this. Great work.

  3. I love this series of vehicles of different types.
The 2CV4 definitely brings back memories even though I’ve never owned one.
As always your piece is beautifully done. The clear circle is a nice detail also this time.

Yes the 2CV4 brings back memories, it was my father’s favourite car and he had a yellow one ! It was a treat when he would take my children for a ride ! I like the cercle you add in each piece to show a detail. Very well excecuted.

  5. I’m also partial to older cars, they carry so much history as well as their own stories. The detail you have included in the foreground/background nicely compliments the car.

  6. You managed to create a piece that expresses the car’s age. The combination of colors between vibrant and faded does the job.

I love the little details that make up the work.

What a great way to memorise your car. I love the way that you have included a broken windscreen and the weeds growing around it – it makes it feel as though it has had a life. Lovey work

  8. Back in the seventies we owed one just like that, also in red. Utter nostalgia, we loved that car. Love the broken windshield and the broken front, the weeds around it. This one has seen better days for sure. That clear circle is such a nice addition again. Great quilt!

  9. A great tribute to your precious car, expert choice of fabrics, technique and quilting.

  10. A great tribute to your car. I like the way you have muted the colours to show age and I also like the background details.

I love those cars, always wanted one. Beautiful work and I like the way you did the car windows with some reflection, it is awesome. Beautiful stitching and attention to details. Bravo!

  12. This is nostalgia for me. We had a red one too and I have wonderful memories of the many holidays this car took us on.

You really managed to give this car a decayed look. Love also the pavement and the trees on the horizon. The circle is such an interesting part. Awesome work.

  13. What a great way to memorialize your favorite car. I love older cars too, my husband still has his 66 red MGB. Excellent composition and stitching. Well done.

  14. Another great example of what the difference the decay makes, love it!
