Greetje Hein – Decay #2

Decay#2

Bicycle handlebars

For the 2nd quilt of this series I chose an old, rusty bike. Not in its entirety, but only the steering wheel. The bike is against a shed.

In the circle the shed, steering wheel and headlight are as they must have looked in my imagination when the bike was new.

Commercial fabrics have been used.

The bell is applied to fabric with gel medium.

I used intense pencils for details and dept.

The whole piece is free-motion quilted.

  3. I love your attention to details and how neetly you work. Great job, well done!

  4. This is such a fascinating and unique take on decay. It’s beautifully executed. I especially love the circle that highlights what the bike looked like when it was new and shiny.

  5. Very realistic work, good colors.

  6. Love your interpretation of our theme. It is so unique how you first draw the viewer in with the overall composition, then lead them to discover there is a small portion that reminds the viewer of how things used to be.

    Good job!

  7. I really like your take on this subject and the circle were you can see how it was before the decay. It is very beautiful in its simplicity, although there are very nice details, like the bell, the writing on the light and the broken window. Looking forward to your next piece. Bravo.

  8. Such a unique concept on decay showing the new and the old at the same time. And as always another beautifully designed and well executed composition. Love all the details, well done!

  9. A delightful portrait of a rusting bicycle, I enjoy the simplicity of your design and choice of colours.

I love the way that you use the circle to illustrate the way that the bike would have looked when it was new. It really highlights the decay, which has been beautifully worked. The rust and the details in the shed are wonderful. Great work

  13. An interesting idea to show the original alongside the decayed appearance. Lots of details in your work, I especially like the broken window.

  14. Love your series and the bike is just stunning!
