Genevieve Guadalupe – Decay #4

Summer time

Continuing with the concept of decaying flora through the seasons, here comes the sun filled summer.
The trees are full of leaves and fruits, the flowers are sparkling with vivid colours. The decaying leaves are turning into mulch breaking down into tiny pieces nourishing the soil.

Materials and technique: repurposed cotton fabrics, tea bags, real leaves preserved, printmaking, cotton batting, poly thread, embroidery floss, cheese cloth. Intaglio and block printmaking, monoprints, preserving of leaves, machine pieced, machine quilted, hand embroidery.

  1. This is a nice addition to your series, keeping the same design concept and the same idea. I love the introduction of summery colors into a background and the texture created by hand stitching.

  2. Your colours really reflect those of the summer and the dark leaves remind us that decay exists as well. A lovely addition to your series.

  3. A beautiful continuation of your series.

I can see summer in your piece and also the way that the older leaves are falling to nourish the new growth. The fabrics are really well chosen and the stitching brings everything together. Great work

  7. A lovely piece showing many different techniques. Your dense horizontal stitching works so well in all your pieces. Love the addition of hand stitching.

  8. I have to agree with the comments, plant do do need the decaying plant material for growth – a clever interpretation.

  9. Lovely summery colours but also showing the role of decaying leaves. An excellent continuation of your series.

  11. I love how you continue your series and nice to see more and more colored fabrics appear. This piece gives me a real summery feeling.

  12. As always your stiching is sublime as is your composition. I love the summer colors with the added decayed leaves. Beautiful.

  13. I like how the dried leaves are continuating to decay as the seasons change, what a great concept. Such joyful colors and fabrics and the glimpse of hand stitching is perfect. Love this series.

  14. Great capture of the steps of decay in nature.
