Chantal Guillermet – Decay #3

For the first two quilts in the Decay series, I used eco-prints I’d made, focusing on the passage of time in nature and the acceleration of its destruction.

The next two pieces will focus on the human actions responsible for the degradation of what surrounds us: abandonment and the consequences of war.

Once destroyed, homes fall into disrepair, walls crack and everyday objects break. All that’s left are a few charred old papers, testifying to the fact that there was once life here.

Break down printed cotton fabrics, coffee-dyed paper, deli-paper, eco-print, stencilling, collagraph printing on gelli plate for the pots.

Rayon thread and transparent monofilament.

The work of humans decaying is sadly too frequent. A good choice of subject beautifully interpreted.

  2. A great design to depict results of human nature on the built environment. Like your use of the different elements. Great work

  3. A powerful composition symbolizing the devastating effects of conflict, abandonment and decay. Love all the stitching and layering of techniques, well done.

  4. This is so touching, Chantal.
A very sad reality in many parts of the world today. I don’t think I can say anything more than that, this makes such a strong impression on me.

  6. A wonderful creation with a variety of techniques and materials that blend wonderfully together.

A delicate rendering of a sad subject that depicts the consequences of human failing. I like how you have chosen personal artefacts to emphasise this. The fabrics and details are perfect

  8. Your decay is perfectly designed and beautifully presented.  Pastels are so typical for your style even in decay they look absolutely gorgeous. Well done!

  9. Beautiful interpretation of the theme. So many different techniques and yet such a strong result. As always your subtle colors are wonderful. Well done.

  10. Many techniques used to present a distressing subject. The colours work really well and there is a lot of detail to see.
