Chantal Guillermet – Decay #2

Autumn undergrowth

Even as it decays, nature retains a certain beauty; especially when autumn light brings color to a tangle of decaying leaves and vegetation.

The background fabric was dyed by myself a long time ago and I thought it went well with this small branch reproduced in eco-print.

It’s the same branch that I reproduced in a smaller version on the background by stencilling with paintsticks.

Ecoprint on cotton, dammassé cotton fabric, fabric painting, rubbing with inktense blocks, painted vliesofix applications, free motion quilting and machine embellishment.

Hand embroidery with old Aubusson wool thread.

  1. The leaves are beautiful and delicate. The green leaf creates such a striking contrast.
I like the background you have created!
Somehow this piece gives me the feeling of an old hand-painted wallpaper – and I mean that in the very best way!

  3. Chantal, your quilts always bring to me a sense of serenity. There is something ethereal about your work. Even if it depicts decay, it is still very beautiful and calming.

  4. A great background fabric! To me it looks like light coming thru.

I like how you used painted vliesofix for the leaves.

  5. the delicate images of the leaves play well against your hand dyed background. Peace and serenity abound.
