Norway
I’m an art quilter from Norway, currently residing in Hamar, a small town north of Oslo. I was born in Finland, but moved to Norway when I was quite young.
I received my education in occupational therapy, not realizing that art was my true calling.
I have always been into knitting, crocheting and sewing. About fifteen years ago I started quilting, but quickly felt the urge to express myself more freely. Luckily, I eventually found my way to art quilting. Now, my days are filled with textiles and the joy of creating art.
Reading has always been close to my heart, leading me to combine it with my art.
This connection to words is reflected in my work: most of my pieces are inspired by a poem, quote, book, or song lyric. This adds a new layer of meaning to my art, as I interpret the text through textiles, meditating on the deeper significance of the words that have inspired me.
While the text is essential to me, I hope my art can also be enjoyed without the need to know its inspiration. That said, I also create art without any text in mind, maybe not very often, but it does happen!
My art is mostly abstract, and I love using bold colors and experimenting with new ideas. While I primarily work with my sewing machine, I enjoy combining it with hand embroidery and other techniques.
I have had several solo exhibitions in my hometown.
My membership in SAQA has expanded my reach, leading to features in multiple Virtual Galleries and publications. I have also been published in other books and magazines.
