Margaret Blank – Contrast
“Contrast” is a broad theme — or so I learned when I spent four weeks exploring it in an online class with Canadian art quilter, Pamela Allen. While I learned a great deal, I found myself coming back to the simple concept of contrasting colours — and where I find such contrast in my daily life. Once again, I sought inspiration in the woods around my home.

I love how the January shadows are blue against the snow across the road. I made a sample, about which I posted on my blog. I went on to make a second, larger piece, using blue background fabric, but that didn’t speak to the “Contrast” theme in quite the same way as pure blue and white.
“Across the Road” may be least complex piece I’ve ever made, but I believe it speaks for itself.
Materials: Commercial cottons, fusible web, cotton batting, recycled poly-cotton sheeting (backing).
Techniques: Fusible appliqué, machine quilting.
