Kaylene Maalste – Book #4
Continuing along with the theme of Creativity in “The Creative Process” edited by Brewster Ghiselin, I chose Ludwig Van Beethoven and how he composed the canon of O Tobias. Beethoven dreamt the music while on a journey, but could not recall it when he awoke. It was not until he was riding in a similar carriage he recalled the music. Beethoven dedicated the canon to his friend Tobias Haslinger.
I machined stitched the five bars of a staff in three positions on off-white cotton and hand embroidered some of the music score.

I really like the peacefulness of this piece, great lettering and I love the different notes floating in the air. Great work.
A musical staff accompanied by flying notes and letters. Beautiful embroidery work. Bravo!
What a good idea to choose Beethoven and music score to illustrate your chossen book ! A very quiet piece.
I love the peace and calm that is in your work. Perfect performance
Great atmosphere in your quilt. great attention to details and harmonious colours. Bravo!
I see a very peaceful quilt. Well done Kaylene.
A peaceful composition with a dreamlike quality and beautiful stitching. Well done.
I have to agree with all who admire the peacefulness of your work. In the background I also see some notes embroidered with white thread. I see them like music coming back to the composer’s memory. Love your work!
Your work is simple yet very effective. Good job.
A very effective way to illustrate the score. I like the way that the musical notation flows across the ‘page’ almost like the flow of the music itself
This is very serene and calm. The stitching in black and white reflects the return of the music in a dream.
Beautiful embroidery work. I love how you added the floating notes in white.
Very interesting to me as I hadn’t heard of this canon before. To have chosen to stitch part of the score of course perfectly illustrates the musical piece. Beautiful stitching, very harmonious piece!
