Sonia Ruiz – Decay #2
Abandoned pier
Xochimilco is characterized by a system of canals, which measures about a total of 170 km. These canals, and the small colorful boats that float on them are internationally famous. I created a beautiful afternoon sunset of an untraveled canal where there is an abandoned little dock and an old canoe sinking into the murky water which is still tied to an old tree stump.
Materials: commercial fabrics, raw edge appliqué, confetti technique, slashing technique, tulle, jute, yarn, acrylic paint, sequins, gauze, sea beads, Tyvek and free motion quilting.

This is very beautiful, both in terms of the colors and the composition.
I love the way you use the slashing/chenille technique for the water. Very effective!
Your colour choice gives a real sense of sadness to the piece, the old boat slowly sinking into the murky water works so well. the slashing is a really good idea for the water. Great work!
This is a very dramatic piece ! and I like the reflection of the sky in the water and the many details to discover in your composition !
You created such a perfect picture where the texture of water is out of this world. I love it, bravo!
Both chenille- and confetti technique are very well chosen. Every detail of this piece is perfect. Bravo!
Great design, I had also thought of how the chenille (slashing) technique would be very appropriate for decay. Love the theme.
I love your technique. You piece are so 3D. Love the colours and composition. Beautiful quilt and attention to details. Gorgeous!
I love the techniques you have used to add the details and textures to this piece. The colours are beautiful and the sinking canoe adds a lovely detail. Great work
A wonderful piece of work with so many details and techniques. The fabrics are the right color. I’m curious to see the work in my eyes.
The colours and techniques used here have created a dramatic design with lots of detail. I particularly like the texture you have achieved for the water.
the drama you have portrayed is stunning. I applaud you for using the chenllie technique in creating the water, it truly looks like water in motion. The drama of the sunset anchors the composition.
Colors and composition are awesome. The slashing technique for the water is a splendid idea and you can just imagine the swirling water.
Beautiful sunset colors as a wonderful contrast to the confetti bushes.
Love it!
You have created so much drama in this piece! The outstanding colors, the reflection of the stunning sunset in the waters. Very daring to use the chenille technique for the water, it is so effective! That boat so lifelike! Awesome all of it!
Wish all the decays be so vibrant and colorful as yours, love it!
