Iina Alho – Decay #1

I like to use a text as a starting point for my art. This time my inspiration comes from the Book of Job in the Old Testament.
The story of Job is traditionally seen as a story about the quest for meaning in the middle of extreme hardship.
However, Job’s physical, emotional, and spiritual struggles also offer a powerful depiction of decay, both in its literal and metaphorical forms.
I am using this opportunity to create six pieces inspired by the Book of Job, as I have never before created a series based on a single text.

Job #1: Destruction

At the start of the Book of Job, we learn of his immense suffering: he loses his wealth, his livestock, his health, and, most devastating of all, all ten of his children.

Job 1:18-19
Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead

Job 7:5
My body is clothed with worms and scabs, my skin is broken and festering.

“Job #1: Destruction is pieced and fused. Freemotion quilted, freemotion appliquéd, hand embroidered, painted.
