Greetje Hein – Decay #3
Harley Davidson
For my 3rd piece of the Decay series I made a picture of my husband’s Harley Davidson.
Now I had to imagine how it would be when the motorcycle is old and rusty.
I used commercial fabrics and created details with stitching. The words “Harley Davidson” I transferred from a copy of the photo on fabric with a transfer pen; cut out and fused it on the quilt. In the circle I used different kinds of silver fabrics to create a shiny look like the real motorcycle.

Detail view:

This is very clever and the shiny spot is impressive ! I wonder what are your husband feelings about the decayed Harley Davidson !
Good fabric choices and attention to detail, an interesting piece of work, well done.
Very beautifully executed work with nice details.
I really like the idea of the circle that is featured on all the pieces in your series.
You made a good job of imagining your husband’s motorbike as an old rusty one (I hope he didn’t mind). The details are perfectly observed, and the cracked yellow part, and shiny circle are wonderful details that give the piece a great contrast. Lovely work
Very neat work with super attention to details. You are making a very interesting collction of Decay quilts.
I am impressed by the parts of the motorcycle you chose to display in your work. The highlights you gave are perfect.
Great use of techniques to age the motorcycle. Depth and detail are added in the stitching and in the shiny circle.
I really like how you have used only a part of the motorcycle. It is almost an abstract painting. The Harley Davidson lettering is just perfect and the yellow part with the cracks is beautiful. The yellow color just jumps of the piece and is a very good contrast with the shiny part in the circle. Bravo!
I love the partial depiction of an object, one that brings the viewer in for a closer study. Each little detail is interesting, but I really like the cracked headlight with its peeling chrome. Fascinating!
I love this concept of showing how the new looked in the circle. Beautiful work and attention to details. Bravo!
A good idea to use only part of the motorcycle. Three items vie for our attention, the shiny circle, the cracked headlight and the perfect lettering. Great attention to detail, well done!
Wow, and I thought that your bike was stunning – now it is Harley! Love your focus on details, very powerful.
Such a unique take on decay, showing the new and the old parts of the motorcycle at the same time. Beautifully executed details and composition. Well done.
