Genevieve Guadalupe – Decay #1

The definition of decay is the state or process of rotting or decomposition. For my series on decay this year I chose to work with the decomposition of flora through the seasons. My first quilt reveals the beauty of decaying leaves in the white crisp winter. All the materials I use are repurposed, I like to work with old used fabrics and remnants giving them a new life just as decay does. In this case the process of decaying leaves nourishes the grounds for life to sprout.

Materials and technique: cotton fabrics, cheese cloth, tea bags, inks, printmaking ink, natural leaves, embroidery floss, cotton batting, poly thread. Machine pieced, dry point printmaking, leaf preserving, hand embroidery, machine quilted.
