Elsy Menko – Decay #6

Autumn leaves
Best autumn memory is from a trip to the US years ago in the month of October. I couldn’t believe the very bright yellows, reds and oranges! On a sad note, it seems that climate change influences the colors and this year they seem to be much less bright. I have tried to express the bright colored leaves in this quilt, with the “confetti” lower part representing the forest floor covered in leaves of many colors. Nature at its most beautiful just before the season’s breaking down and decay, in itself the promise of regeneration and renewal.
Commercial and hand dyed cottons, tule, machine pieced, confetti technique, free machine embroidery, some hand stitching, Inktense blocks, Neo-colour 2 pencils.
Detail view:
  1. Autumn leaves are a great choice for decay. You have spent a lot of time on the different techniques that bring your quilt to life.

  2. Great visual feast for the theme, well done!

  3. I really like the way that you have constructed this piece it is very effective. Great choice of fabrics and colour palette , love it!

  4. Your quilt looks spectacular, beautiful colors of decay, love it!

  5. Very colourful and somewhat joyful way to depict the decay of leaves and the turning the autumn season. Well done

  6. Such beautiful colors.
Nicely done. Love the use of confetti.

  7. Your leaves remind me of the fall foliage in Canada and Japan. In Israel there is no fall foliage or at least in minimal quantities. You have managed to express the natural coloration in nature well.

  8. Beautiful work Elsy and the colours are just right. A glorious finale for your series.

  9. It is Decay in all its glory ! I love the bright colors and the composition of your quilt.
