Ann Turley – Decay #3
Turquoise Peeling Paint
Continuing with a Rust theme, I’ve chosen to do a detailed view of a well-rusted object. Enhancing the turquoise paint with charcoal and colored pencil has given it an old and dirty appearance. The quilt motifs are meant to add dimension. I’ve used commercial cottons, hand dyes. Charcoal and colored pencil. It is machine quilted.
Peeling Paint, Full View

Detail

This time I’ve chosen to represent a very rusted object. It could be a car, a building, a bucket or a toy. It is so rusty that one cannot tell what its original purpose was. Once again I’ve used the fabric that appears to be rust-coated. but I’m afraid that’s the end of it. The turquiose fabric already had a weathered look to it, so it needed only a bit of a darker color to make it believeable. The quilting adds detail and structure. In examining my composition I realized that it could be hung in any orientation and still delivder the message I was trying to deliver.
The use of charcoal on the turquoise fabric is very effective !
A great subject choice, I have to admit that I am always drawn to peeling paint! Good colours and the aging has worked well. Nice work!
I really like the colors.
You’ve really captured the exciting pattern that old, peeling paint can create.
The turquoise paint is a perfect contrast to the rust and the subject is really well depicted and stitched. Great work
My first thought was also about perfect combination of colors. And stitching really enhances the perception of peeling paint. Well done!
The use of two tones in the work is very interesting. The turquoise stands out so much against the rust background.
An excellent palette with detailed use of stitch and added colour. This shows the peeling paint perfectly. Well done.
Really nice combination of colors. Good choice to enhance the turquoise with the charcoal and colored pencils. Perfect quilting for more texture.
I love your piece. The quilting adds so much dimension, it is like entering into a gold cave. Beautiful work on the turquoise. Bravo!
A lovely combination of colors. The quilting adds much texture to the piece and the use of charcoal and pencils on the turquoise is very effective to emphasize the peeling paint.
Love the simplicity and colors in your works, well done!
The combination of these colors are great. I love the turquoise.
The charcoal adds shadows and depth to the aged feel of the quilt. The peeling and color combination work very well and adds so much visual interest. Well done.
