Kaylene Maalste – Nature #2
Inspiration – The rocks at Middleton Beach are interesting because of their geological formation and consequence weathering. On the rock faces can be found protruding rocks smoothed by the action of the water, seashells and other bits and bits and pieces caught in the cervices.
This quilt is a micro look at the rock face. Materials used are hand dyed silk and cheese cloth. Woollen thread and various weights of embroidery thread. The black rocks are reversed applique and stuffed between the main top fabric and interfacing. Texture was obtained by shredding threads from the cheesecloth and a variety of embroidery stitches. The background fabric is grey variegated 100 percent cotton.
