Chantal Guillermet – Nature #2

For my Forest quilt N° 2 I chose to represent winter with black and grey gradations for the bare trees, and only touches of red for the bushes whose branches remain red all winter.

I used exactly the same drawing as for Forest N°1, only the colours have changed.

What also changed was the quilting: I reproduced the basic design on a quilting paper that I turned over on the quilt. This gave me the reversed design and I used these lines from the back of the paper as quilting lines.

I wanted to give the idea of movement caused by the wind and bad winter weather with snow and dark atmosphere.

I accentuated some areas with paint or denser quilting.

  1. A great colour change for the second quilt. Great idea to reverse the change of the quilting. The design is very pleasing to look at should make a great series.

  2. A beautiful new rendition of your series. The use of the reverse design for quilting is clever and rewarding. I love your choice of colours that are harmonious and hot despite the cold winter. I love it. Bravo!

  4. What a great idea to use the same composition, but reverse the quilting. Love the addition of the red to the grey winter colours. Well done.

  5. What a great idea to keep the same design and change the colors. Makes for such a different feel. The reverse quilting turned out beautifully, well done!

  6. It really works well with your first quilt, it makes an amazing pair. I will not repeat what others already have said but really well done!

  7. I like your thinking to get the quilt done. Great idea reverse quilting to do the stitching. beautiful colors.

  8. I echo all the comments above. Very effective and a great idea.

Very beautiful work Chantal. I like the way that you have used the same basic design but have depicted the changing of the seasons with colout paint and stitch

  12. Clever idea! The color choices work well to represent the seasons and the stitching gives movement and texture to the foliage. Wonderful addition to your series!

  13. Clever idea to use the same composition, just change colors. The grey colors give a winter atmosphere. Using red makes it interesting.
