Genevieve Guadalupe – Artist style #2

The Spiral. In the style of Hilma af Klint.

The spiral is life energy. It appears in our DNA, hair follicle growth patterns, fingertips, cochleae inside our ears, plants like ferns, sea shells, etc… Energy moves through air and water in spirals. It is a shape of divine proportions. In this quilt I chose the spiral as my guide and try to follow the ever present duality seen in Hilma af Klint’s work. Showcasing her colours, the yellow for the sun, fire, male, energizing side of us and the blue, moon, cold, calm female side, presented in equal proportions to obtain perfect balance.

Materials and technique: cotton fabric, poly thread, cotton batting, printing inks, embroidery floss. Monoprint printed on fabric, machine quilted, hand embroidered.

  1. Lovely choice of colours and design, I shall have to explore Klint further. Cheers

  10. Af Klint’s art is very intriguing and you made it your own. Your choice of colors are soft but meaningful and the use of interlocking spiral forms are spot on. Well done!

  11. Hilma Af Klimt used an amazing variety of form and shape in her artwork, without anything becoming overwhelming. Your delicate shapes and use of negative space are quite soothing and create a piece I could examine for hours.

  12. I like how you used different spirals. Nice colors.
