San Miguel de Allende

Inspiration:  The colorful, cultural and historic towns of Mexico.

San Miguel de Allende is a magical city in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.  It is a vibrant blend of Colonial and Spanish arquitecture, thriving arts scene and cultural festivals.  In the city’s historic, cobblestoned center lies the neo-gothic church Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, inspired by Gothic cathedrals in Europe.

In 2008, UNESCO named San Miguel a World Heritage Site, citing it as a cradle of Mexican independence and highlighting its fascinating integration of arquitecture styles, from Baroque to neo-Gothic.

I used a photo transfer method taught by Ana Mayorga over a hand dyed fabric, painted with acrylics, used Oaxacan yarns for the bougainvilleas and free motion quilting.
